Career Courses for Career Mamas

Career progression does not have to stop because we become mothers. But many mothers feel they struggle to keep upwards on ladder because of lack of growth opportunities. Sadly, some organisations and managers incorrectly perceive working mothers at a disadvantage to perform, be present, adapt…the list goes on, which inevitably impedes growth. Unfortunately, it is our responsibility to change that perception for the unity of women that have gone before as well as those that follow.

Working mothers who are career orientated, are incredibly determined. Although you should absolutely be supported in your career, it is your own prerogative to chart your course and ask for what you need to develop and grow. Training and other forms of personal and professional development are the best weapons to fight career fatigue / stagnation / apathy.

If you feel like you don’t know where to begin, do not worry. Here, we have a list of INA-approved courses, which are designed to help modern working mums. The courses can help you to either progress in your current job, or help you to switch careers into different domains. Continue reading to find out more.

Supermums Salesforce is a course that was founded by a mum of two. She was looking into creating a programme for mothers with one of the most famous CRM Platform – Salesforce. The programme allows mothers to acquire Salesforce skill swiftly (its original objective was to ensure underpaid and/or jobless mothers were able to change careers and venture into Salesforce). This offers flexible and well-paid career opportunities for modern working mothers. Click on the link and check out their website to see what they have to offer.

3 Key Highlights INA loves:

  1. Flexible, virtual online courses backed by some of the worlds largest tech specialist brands such as Dyson, Deloitte Digital and Accenture
  2. Opportunity to directly apply Salesforce knowledge through live job roles posted on their website
  3. It is a social enterprise founded and led entirely by women

Working Mums was founded by a mum, who yearned for a more flexible yet challenging career. So the site is a search engine for you to look for part time jobs, or flexible working jobs. In 2019, they have founded Working Dads site, to cater the growing numbers of dads trying to have flexibility in their jobs too. Especially with the changing norms since Covid-19.

3 Key Highlights INA loves:

  1. A suite of courses, including the opportunity to kick-start a lucrative career in football via the FIA Football Intermediary Professional Programme. We say women can not only play, we can lead too!
  2. Working Mums partners with global companies to advise them on how to improve their flexible working policies, championing the movement for a healthier work/life balance
  3. Dedicated FAQs and guides to support mothers through their parental leave rights no matter what work contract they are on

Successful Mums is also founded by a mum, trying to find a more flexible and fulfilling job around two small children. After realising the amount of working women, who were all on the same boat, she setup Successful Mums to provide training and advices for newmums that are trying to go back to work, and also for mums who want to upskill.

3 Key Highlights INA loves:

  1. Once completing a course, you are automatically enrolled into a ‘grad’ network giving you access to thousands of women who are doing it for themselves (and their families) – what a way to motivate!
  2. Free business start-up courses
  3. Follow insta account @successfulmums_; every post is positive and relatable for those much needed daily pick-me-ups

Go For It!

One clear pattern here is that these courses are mostly set-up by working mums, who are all trying to balance both their careers and motherhood. The #mumsupportingmums movement is real. So believe it! Undoubtedly, if you are looking to up the ante in your career for a better future, there will be something for you. Go for it – for you and your family.
