Key Looks for Your Work Wardrobe by Trimester

Many of us want to maintain our style identity, particularly at work, whilst embracing the changing needs of our bodies. Being pregnant is no exception. For work-wear, we are accustomed to our weekday ‘go-to’ uniform and being pregnant can throw that off track. Having key style looks enable you to maximise comfort and style. Don’t worry, it is more than just sweatpants. Read on for key pieces as you move through the trimesters – helping any working mama-to-be feel on top of her game.

First Trimester

Golden Rule: Easy Styles which Reflect your Style

Chances are that you would ideally like to mask your pregnancy during the first 12 weeks or so to let the news sink in before you announce to the world. You will probably be dealing with the realisation of your pregnancy emotionally, as well as battling with physical symptoms many of us face.  This potent combination can create an awkward period at work all round, therefore feeling as comfortable and as true to yourself is key.

1. Long, Floaty Dress

Depending on the time of year, this can be worn alone or with a slouchy jumper draped on top. Patterns work well to distract any clues of extra weight gain.

2. Over-size Blazer and Straight-Leg Denim Jeans

A blazer can really be your best friend throughout your whole pregnancy. Worn with jeans, it keeps you looking smart yet relaxed and is likely to help you look sharp for any crucial meetings where morning sickness strikes. A fitted blazer works well. But you may want to consider investing in an over-sized blazer that you can use throughout your pregnancy.

3. Funnel Neck Top and Jeans

A classic go-to top that can help to mask any pronouncing belly and draws attention to your face. Bonus tip – wear your hair up with a statement earring for added effect.

Second Trimester

Golden Rule: Embrace your Shape

At this stage, you may have broken the news to your boss and team members. When the news is officially out, not only may you already need to avoid those unwanted belly rubs from colleagues, but as your body is in true transformation mode, you are also going to have to say ‘ciao for now’ to some of your most loved wardrobe pieces. Introducing some signature style pieces during this time will help you ease into months ahead.

1. Oversize Shirt and Jeans

A staple that can live in your wardrobe throughout your pregnancy and beyond. A crisp white shirt over denim jeans or a tailored trouser will make you look effortlessly chic.

2. High-Belted Dress

A good quality belted dress worn with flats or heels can bring out your inner girl boss. As your belly begins to round, this is the perfect outfit to embrace the bump. Consider wearing it to your pregnancy announcement party if you are planning to have one.

3. Black Ribbed Midi Dress

Who says Little Black Dresses cannot still feature in a mama-to-be’s style? A ribbed black dress will keep you looking fresh and professional whilst also embracing your new motherhood. Wearing this at a midi length is best to enhance your silhouette and can be worn in any weather with sneakers or heels.

4. Slouch or Boxy Shirt Dress

Whilst we all want to feel our best every single day, accepting the good as well as the bad can be life affirming. Pregnancy throws us ups and downs; when sleep is lacking and you are time limited in the mornings, throwing on a boxy shirt dress is practical and comfy. Extra tip, wear with your hair pulled back into a slick pony tail to inspire that ‘no sleep, no problem’ feeling.

Third Trimester

Golden Rule: Chic Functionality and Comfort

You’ve made it to the final few months, and whilst there are many things on a mama’s mind right now, there are some clever wardrobe pieces that can see you through the 3rd trimester and into the 4th.

1. Nursing Tops

Introducing these in your final few months will help you get comfortable with the fit and functionality before putting them to good use if breastfeeding is part of your plan.

2. Kaftan Dress

You will be at your true pregnancy goddess self during this period and what better way than to let it hang loose in a timeless kaftan dress.

3. Oversized Blazer

See blazer noted above in the first trimester section. An over-sized blazer is multi-purposed throughout your pregnancy and, particularly, at this stage, is flattering for your legs.

Any style-conscious mama-to-be can use her style to feel empowered daily. Having a few thought-through pieces at each trimester can build your inner and outer confidence at work. Continue to slay all day, mama.
